Good morning Jacket fans and welcome to another addition of Senior Sunday Conversations. This week I was able to catch up with OL/DL Wrigley Kennedy. Kennedy was sitting down with a platter stacked with medium rare ribeyes and a couple cartons of cookies and cream ice cream but graciously allowed me to sit down and have him answer a few questions.
Porterhouse: Wrig, thanks for giving me some time today man, I really appreciate it. Your last season at Kingfisher is off to a pretty good start. How do you see this year playing out?
Wrigley Kennedy: I think we have the potential to go all the way. We need to be more physical with teams but I feel like we have the guys to do it.
PH: Ground and pound, you definitely are a lineman. What sort of things did you do to prepare for the season over the summer? Do you have any personal goals this year?
WK: I lifted on my own and went to summer pride. My goal is to get a lot of pancakes. Just something about hearing the guy you are blocking kind of grunt and moan a bit when you put him on the ground.
PH: You're a dominant force on both sides of the ball, which do you prefer to play on?
WK: I'd have to say offense because I can move people around and they can't do anything about it.
PH: I think that the weatherford QB would agree that you should be on offense after the hit you put on him in that game. I'm pretty sure I heard him whimper a little bit after that and ask how much time was left in the game because he was ready to go home. College and Pro football are back! Do you have any teams you like to follow?
WK: Yeah I like to watch OU play and in the pros the Minnesota Vikings.
PH: Speaking of college, do you want to play college ball? Have you had any interest from schools or coaches?
WK: I may play in college, it kind of depends on what sort of opportunities are available. A few schools are talking to me and I've received one offer but right now I'm concentrating on this season and working hard to help prepare the team and myself to win a State Championship.
PH: That's great man. I wish nothing but the best for you. Man you're tearing through those steaks, they look good, mind if I have one? Looks like you have five left. By the way, do you have a favorite pre game meal or anything?
WK: DON'T. TOUCH. MY. FOOD....yeah I really like the BBQ chicken. Always so good.
PH: No problem man, I'll just move back a little to give you some more room. What do you do when you're not playing or practicing football?
WK: I hang with my friends and play Madden on PlayStation. We get some good games going sometimes.
PH: You seem like kind of a quiet, calm guy unless you are on the football field (or protecting your 11:00 am snack), what animal best fits your personality and if you were that animal would you play football?
WK: I'd definitely be a grizzly bear and would for sure be playing football.
PH: Awesome dude. If you're gonna be a bear be a grizzly. Wrig, I really appreciate your time and I'm going to let you get on with your day.
WK: What? I didn't hear you? You were kind of mumbling there like Coach Blundell.
PH: Oh sorry, I was just in awe. I've never seen someone eat a carton of ice cream in 4 spoonfuls. I just wanted to thank you for your time and wish you good luck on a healthy and successful season.
WK: You're welcome.
The Jackets have a bye week this week and will play Perkins (town not the restaurant) next week.
