Today's conversation is one that I have been looking forward to for quite some time. I've had the pleasure over the years to watch Kyle in many different sports and situations. In each and every one of times I've seen him, he's had a smile on his face. Here's the deal, it's not any smile. This guy has what we call in the business a "dangerous" smile. He could be flashing those chicklets to charm the heck out of the ladies or he could be saying, "just keep talking cause Imma bout to rip your head off". The thing that makes it dangerous is that to the novice observer, it looks the same.

I had the opportunity to catch up with Kyle while watching the Green Bay/NY Giants game this morning and our conversation went like this:

Hombre Lobo: Kyle thanks for sitting down with me. I can't decide what is worse, Green Bay's effort or Aaron Rogers' hair.

Kyle Borelli: Yeah you know I'm not the biggest fan of his hair. I'm not sure what he has going on there and it looks pretty wack when he has it up and in a hat.

HB: No doubt. Who has the best lettuce and flow on the team?

KB: Paytun (Burnham). Hands down best hair on the team. Nothing can beat that golden flow.

HL: Kingfisher's own Sunshine huh? That's cool. So man, this is your Senior year. What did you do over the summer to get ready for the season?

KB: You know with the past injuries and stuff it was a little difficult. I had to be cautious and take things slow until I felt good. I spent a lot of time working out making sure my body was healthy enough to make one last return for football.

HL: Past injuries is putting it lightly my man. I'm proud of you for coming back from that, in many cases the toughest part to rehab isn't so much the injury but also your mind. What sort of goals have you set for yourself and the team this year?

KB: Well first off, I’ve set goals to try and be injury free. So far it’s going good. And since I’m unable to play defense which is what I love, I’ve been comfortable with being a role player for our team. I know I’m not making the biggest plays, but I know I’m doing the little things for the big plays. For the team, I can see us making it deep in the playoffs. We really want it this year and I believe we have the skill set to do so.

HL: Kyle, that almost brought a tear to my eye to hear you say that you are happy being a role player and willing to do the little things FOR the big plays. If you can convince the rest of your team to believe that way I think you will be surprised how far you will make it in the playoffs.

Next week will be a test. Private school Metro Christian comes to town along with rumors of recruiting, cheating, PEDs and just overall nastiness. How do you see the game playing out?

KB: You know, I think the coaches have a good plan for us defensively to match their quick pass offense, and I think we have the athletes to compete with them. I think we can definitely do something good against these recruiters

HL: I hope so. The team is really showing some improvement. There doesn't seem to be as much confusion out there and people are starting to learn their roles. Speaking of roles, you were recently signed into the inaugural class of SofaKing athletes. How does that feel and what do you want to bring to the brand as the SofaKing name continues its scorching pace to the moon?

KB: I think I have some really cool ideas and designs I could get created. I think it will help boost both of our popularity if we push out some cool merch for the fans

HL: Good to hear. I know you will represent the SofaKing well and inspire many other athletes to join in and be a part of something special. Speaking of that, which of your teammates has surprised you most this year?

KB: I think a lot of my teammates have really stepped up this year and done great things in their own aspects. I think (Ethan) Karcher has really surprised me the most. He has been making a lot of consistent and athletic plays on both sides of the ball

HL: Yeah I like that kid. I'm sure with you being a Sofie (Sofie=SofaKing OG/follower), you saw the interview we posted a few weeks back. If he keeps up, he will be something to see next year.

With this being your last of many years in the Kingfisher system, what coach has a phrase that you think you will be repeating for years to come?

KB: Recently coach Winans has been saying “Big time players make big time plays in big time situations.” I think that will probably stay with me for a long time

HL: It's a true statement. But the big time players have to be prepared to make those big plays in big situations and one way to prep is through pregame meals and traditions. What are some of your favorites?

KB: Anything with cheesy potatoes is great. My favorite pregame tradition is getting an orange aid on Thursdays after practice with my friends

HL: Can't go wrong with either one of those things. What do you do when you aren't practicing or playing football?

KB: Outside of football I’m normally studying or doing homework. I like to make sure I’m doing the best I can. Other than that I normally like to just spend time with my family or friends doing just about anything. My main hobby is fishing though, nothing better than ripping lips

HL: Kyle, you are putting the STUD in student/athlete right now with this interview. How about future plans?

KB: I plan on going to college. I haven’t been able to decide which one yet because they are all great in different aspects. As well, I am constantly switching which path I want to take for a degree

HL: Good for you. You really have things figured out man. Listen, that's all I've got for you today. I really appreciate your time and answers to my questions, I know your fans will appreciate getting to know you a bit better. Good luck to you for your Senior year and I hope you have a healthy and successful Senior football season.

KB: Of course. Thank you for choosing me this week, I had a great time!

Kyle and the Jackets will play Metro Christian Thursday night for the Warriors For Freedom game. Get there early and help cheer them on to victory as well as support a great group in Warriors For Freedom.
