Scouting the Chisholm Longhorns

Generally most teams worth an ounce of liquid excrement have more than a few returns on the Google machine for opposing teams to look through and try to get some information as to what they bring to the table. Well, the Chisholm Longhorns are one of those teams that have about two sources that the SofaKing incredible staff was able to find. Ironically, both of them were laughable.

We first visited their Twitter page where the first post regarding this season appeared to be copies of their playbooks ready to be taught, memorized and executed. Readers, I have seen ads selling old mattresses for sale that have been stained by nocturnal accidents from what appears to have been from a family of 12 sleeping in the same bed for 17 years have more pages in it than the Longhorn playbook.

Secondly, we were able to find what was humorously called a highlight film from their last game against Fairview, where they lost 68-15. Immediate takeaways from the so-called highlight film:

  1. It was 2 minutes 17 seconds long

  2. A ten yard run was the first "highlight"

  3. An interception was played, but if you watch it the Fairview QB (probably their 4th string 7th grader) threw up a lob to a 4'9 receiver surrounded by three Chisholm participants (to my estimation they weren't athletic enough to be called players).

  4. And this one is the kicker, the slide before the play was "67 yard run". I sit up and take notice because remembering when your Jackets scrimmaged Fairview they were a small, yet scrappy bunch that has some talent and is expected to be in the final game for Class A this season. The "67 yard run" was a sweep to the strong side that went out of bounds around the line of scrimmage.

The remaining 1.13 was just as dismal. Chisholm may have had some limited success by throwing the ball against Fairview and were able to complete a few passes because of their height advantage over them but they won't be so lucky versus Kingfisher.

Cade Covalt got his first of many (yes, many you heard it here first) interceptions last week and that Big Dawg is hungry. He liked the taste of returning that pick for a touchdown and is ready to get back to the table for more. Dallen Barton has been lock down on pass coverage so far this year and there's no reason to think it won't continue. Jax has a nose for the ball and will be all over the Longhorns receiving corps.

Once their first year coach realizes that they won't be able to throw the ball, he will more than likely throw his hands up in frustration and decide to try to run. Harrison Evans, Wrigley Kennedy and Tanner Parker will be right there saying "bring it on".

Offensively, expect to see more of what you saw in the second half versus weatherford. Ground and pound with Ethan Karcher and Harrison Evans to set up Dallen Baton's speed who is just millimeters away from breaking a huge run every week. Jax will continue to improve his passing especially early when the longhorn defenders will be aggressively pursuing more INTs only to find that the Jacket receivers are a bit bigger and stronger than the ones they went against in Week 1.

This will be another improvement game from the Jackets which is always appreciated going into the bye week. Expect the score to be ridiculous and your Jackets to be waking up winners once again on Saturday morning.
