Good afternoon, Sofies. Your ole pal Murray here. Sorry it’sbeen so long since I’ve put out an award winning article, but I’ve been busy on my book tour. Now, I did not plan on a book tour, but when your auto-biography is #1 on the NY Times Best Seller list for 69 straight weeks, it’s kind of expected that you make the rounds. I mean shaking babies and kissing hands gets old, but I guess that’s the price you pay.
Anyways, enough about me, we’ve got a lot to catch up on, so let’s get started.
Ok, I lied, we aren’t catching up on multiple subjects. The only subject today is the Kingfisher Jackets football team. We all knew that this was going to be a challenging year with all of the studs that graduated last year. With the losses to graduation, the injuries suffered early this year at key positions, and the douche bags trying to destroy the team via social media, it has definitely been a challenging year for the Jackets. With all of the challenges listed above, I am proud of where we sit this year. From outside this great community, a 2-5 record doesn’t look great, but if you take a deeper look, like intelligent, critical thinkers do, it’s not a horrible season for the young jackets. First of all, the early season schedule was tough, and for the most part, they have been in almost every game, especially the last two losses. Against #5 Perkins (not the restaurant) they were within a score until late in the 4th; and against private school Metro Christian, the Jackets held the lead the entire game, until 2:57 left in the 4th when Metro’s RB slipped through the line and ran 57 yards for a touchdown.
I always think of what I heard a wise man once say, “Win or get better”. That quote has applied to this inexperienced Jacket team all season. Expert eyes, like the ones throughout the group of wise men we know as The Brain Trust, have seen this happen each and every week. The Jackets have taken some lumps this year, but they have improved each week and are in the driver’s seat to yet another playoff appearance. (I believe it will be the 69th year in a row)
Now, without going into too much detail, the Jackets have 3 regular season games remaining, in which they will be playing without HOF head coach Jeff Myers. Coach Myers has been suspended indefinitely due to false accusations by the aforementioned douche bags. The timing of this can be either good or bad, it’s up to the Jackets to decide. A, the team can get upset, quit on the season and lose the rest of their games. Or B, they can rally together, go fight for their coach and kick the dog shit out the remaining opponents. Like the great Terry Bradshaw once said, “The best thing you can say about a coach is his players play hard for him”. I honestly believe that this is what you will see the rest of the season. The Jackets have played hard for Coach Jeff Myers every Friday for almost 20 years, and for the next three weeks, I have no doubts, you will see this trend continue. They are not only playing for their coach, but they are representing an entire community that is continuously getting belittled by an arrogant, keyboard warrior that would love nothing more than to see the entire town of Kingfisher crumble. As a matter of fact, in a previous Tweet, he said, “we want a trial and to BURN THEM DOWN”. I know, very professional from an esteemed lawyer, but that’s what you get with this guy. Anyways, I digress, I feel the Jackets will represent the community proud and finish the season with a fight. I project a 5-5 overall record and a 3rd place finish in District 3A-1.
One senior in particular that I can’t wait to watch the final three weeks is DE/TE Jake Reagan. This guy is a beast and has the potential of beheading a QB on a blind side sack. I absolutely feel horrible for this young man to have to endure so much bullshit over half way through his senior season, but I also feel that he will bottle up his anger and unleash it on McLoud, North Rock Creek and Anadarko. Look for Jake to throw this team on his back and have the best three games of his career down the stretch.
Well, there you go, I did my best to keep the basement dwelling troll’s name out of my article and give you an accurate assessment of the Jackets football season. I’m happy to be back and look for more articles as we wind down the football season and get ready for basketball season.
