Kingfisher is one of four public schools still practicing this week!!  I read a quote the other day that said, “If you are still practicing past Daylight Savings Time, you are more blessed than 95% of high school programs in the country”.  That is an amazing stat.  In other words, your Jackets are in the top 5% of teams in the country.  Now, some of us already knew this was the case, but for those doubters (The Joklahoman for one), listen closely.  THE KINGFISHER YELLOWJACKETS ARE IN AN ELITE GROUP!!!  It is especially impressive to make the “elite 8” in a private school heavy Class 3A.  Now, let’s break down the final 8 and how they got here, shall we?

WEEK 1 RECAP:

Not too much to report here.  If you listened to your ol’ pal Murray last week, then you already knew most of what was going to happen, with the exception of one game.  That one game being Stigler over Holland Hall.  Based on Holland Hall’s last 5 games, this was an upset.  But if you look at the seeding, it was not; Stigler was a 2-seed and Holland Hall a 3-seed.  I do not know how the game played out, but from what my sources tell me, Holland Hall heard there was a bus cruising the parking lot ramming Benzies and Range Rovers so they lost focus on the game and Stigler took advantage.  I’m sure if they played 10 times, HH would win 9, but, as the saying goes, “that’s why they play the games”.  Anyone can win on any given day.  Keep this in mind as we move to the Week 2 Preview.

WEEK 2 PREVIEW:

As I was saying, anyone can overlook someone and get smacked in the mouth. This week is a great opportunity for that to happen with highly ranked teams looking toward their semi-finals matchups.  For example, Metro Christian and Lincoln Christianare probably already watching film on each other and not worrying about Kingfisher or Cascia Hall.  Well, let me tell you, this is not a good idea.  First of all, if a team makes it this far, they are a team talented enough to jump up and bite you in the ass and should not be overlooked.  Second, Kingfisher and Cascia Hall have the talent and hunger to surprise anyone that dares overlook them.  Metro and Lincoln are both teams with heavy passing attacks.  Well, if you combine the talent & hungerwith the potential of winter weather and high winds, ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN.  I will elaborate as I break down each game below.

1. Cascia Hall @ Metro Christian:  I believe Metro will sleepwalk early, but wake up in time to pull out the victory.

a. Metro - 35

b. Cascia - 13

2. Kingfisher @ Lincoln Christian:  If the weather is cold and windy, watch out for this game.  Lincoln’s only advantage is their passing game.  I truly believe Kingfisher has the advantage on all other facets of the game.  The Jacket OL can handle LC’s DL, the front 7 on defense can handle LC’s run game, and with a turnover or two because of a frustrated LC QB, I smell a huge upset here.

a. Lincoln - 20

b. Kingfisher - 24

3. Stigler @ Heritage Hall:  Stigler is still surprised that they made the playoffs, much less, winning a game in week one.  Heritage Hall is well rounded and can win running or throwing the ball.  This one is not close.

a. Heritage Hall – 42

b. Stigler – 6

4. Perkins (the football team) @ Verdigris:  This is another game that can be seriously impacted by weather.  Verdigris has a great passing game and Perkins a slightly above average run game.  If the weather “people” miss on the forecast, which never happens, then look for a Verdigris blowout.  But, if the weather actually is as bad as expected, look for Perkins to take advantage and hang with the home team.  Either way, it ends with a Verdigris win.  PERKINS SUCKS!!

a. Verdigris – 27

b. Perkins – 20

There you go folks.  Yet another ridiculously awesome preview of class 3A football.  If you happen to make it to the Kansas Star before Friday night, be sure to drop your mortgage payment on a 4-team parlay using the information you just received.  You are welcome in advance
