OPPORTUNITY - Maybe, That Is What We Should Be Asking and Looking For….
There have been times in my life where I have asked God to provide something I did not currently have and….
There have been times in my life where I have asked God to help me become something I currently was not.
It’s an ongoing process, but, in either case…. Living has taught me that while I can indeed ask God for anything and everything, perhaps I should first be asking for the “opportunity” to have, or become, whatever it is I am asking to have, or become? (You might need to read that twice)
As a younger man, I often asked God for strength, courage, wisdom, a stronger Faith, to be useful for His kingdom, and to understand that plan He had for my life. I never gave a moment's thought to how I expected those things to show up in my life though. That’s youth for you.
I suppose I expected God to just wave His magic God wand over me one night and I’d wake up strong, wise, faithful, useful, with this keen awareness of His big plan for my small life. That didn’t happen, Instead…. God slowly dismantled the life, and the identity I had built around myself, and then He replaced it with a new life, and a new identity…. built around Him.
All of “THAT” certainly didn’t happen overnight, and I honestly would have preferred to have slept through most of it. Many parts were not fun, but when the dust settled, I realized that…. It was in the years long tearing down and rebuilding phase that I grew in the things I had asked for…. strength, courage, wisdom, Faith, usefulness, and awareness of that plan for my life.
Truth is, that list of “things” evolved through the countless “opportunities” God gave me along the way to….
Be strong and courageous…. when I was nothing but weak and scared.
Gain wisdom…. by working through difficult situations.
Increase my Faith in Him…. by giving Him more and more access to my life, then witnessing Him weave miracles and construct outcomes in my favor.
Be useful for His kingdom…. by serving as His hands and feet, as He worked through me, to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of others, that He put in my path. Understand that plan He had for my life…. by seeking Him not halfheartedly but wholeheartedly, which makes all the difference.
Sure, some things just showed up in my life in remarkable fashion and with remarkable timing but, looking back…. Almost all of those “things”, could be traced back down a path of “opportunity” that originated from choosing to seek God in my life.
Ask for “opportunities” to be or become anything you want. Then look for “opportunities” that God will give you to be or become what you have asked.
