I heard a saying a while back and it has really stuck with me….“If the Devil can’t make you bad, he’ll settle for making you busy”.

There is a lotta truth in that statement, and I often live it. The past ten days have been a great example.

In that ten-day period, as a Realtor I had four closings to prepare for, an out-of-town buyer in town to find a home to purchase, two new listings to process, two board meetings to attend, a Friday night football game away, and parent's weekend at my oldest son’s college about four hours up the road.

I could take the next two days off work, not field one phone call, speak to no one, and still not have enough time to put our house back in order and run the basic errands that need to be run. That doesn’t even count addressing the larger items on the family to do list.

That’s life and it’s great to be busy at work, have family to tend to and meaningful obligations take care of but…. where does God fit in all that?!

Truth is, sometimes he doesn’t, which makes the statement above seem even more valid.

Looking back at the last ten days, I haven’t been “bad”, unless you want to count the broken ice machine I got in a fight with at the hotel, or the words that came out of my mouth when I got cut off in traffic, or a couple of other minor infractions along the way but, I have definitely been “busy”.

Fewer devotionals read in the morning, less quiet time before the sun comes up, less writing, didn’t go to church on Sunday morning, prayer time took a hit, just less of EVERYTHING…. that keeps me plugged in, keeps me on track, keeps God high on my priority list.

The enemy would prefer I be bad, but he will absolutely settle for busy. So, I guess you could say, he has chalked some victories the last ten days.

I realize that there are things in life we can’t just ignore or turn off, and sometimes they can really pile up on us but, be mindful of this….

If you are too busy for God, then you are too busy and, each little win the enemy scores that takes you a step away from God can become one more crack in the foundation of your Faith.

Stay vigilant. Stay plugged in to the things that what work for you, that keeps your mind clear and your Faith strong. Make time for those things, and apologize to no one for doing so.

The enemy doesn’t always thunder in with guns blazing…. sometimes he glides in on a very admirable looking to do list.

Get In The Boat. Do Your Part.

Make Time For God….From Nose To Toes!
